This black skirt suit with rows of tiny buttons was designed in Paris by couture designer Jean Dessès. Dessès was most known for his evening gowns with Grecian draping. In this suit, the fullness of the skirt has been tacked up in the back to create an interesting drape of fabric. It belonged to Guendolen Carkeek Plestcheeff (1892-1994), daughter of early Seattle setters, Morgan and Emily Carkeek. Guendolen was sent to Europe for schooling at age 13 and travelled frequently between Seattle and Europe as an adult. Known as one of the most stylish women in Seattle, Guendolen was a customer at many of the most well-known couture houses in Paris.
